Do you drive a car with a built-in GPS? Although my car doesn’t have one, I sometimes think how nice it would be to have one built in to my car. I’m sure most everyone knows what a GPS is. Just in case you don’t, GPS stands for Global Positioning System. It’s a map based system that not only lets you know where you are, but how to get someplace else by guiding you with step-by-step directions. For those of us who may be a little older, remember Thomas Guides? (SARCASM ALERT) Yes kids, we actually had to look up directions on something called a map!
Even if you don’t have a GPS built in to your car, these days, anyone with a smart phone can simply open up an app on his or her phone that will do the exact same thing. Although this technology has been around now for several years, I still find it to be amazing. Think about it for a minute, you type in an address, and some ladies voice tells you exactly how to get there, every turn, how many miles and even how long it will take to get there. Wow.
What if I told you how you could get a State-Of-The-Art GPS system and it was absolutely free?
I’m talking about a fully functional, top-of-the-line directional system that is 100% accurate and will get you where you need to go every single time, without fail. Does that sound too good to be true? This system is available to every single person at absolutely no charge whatsoever. Here’s how you get yours. The first step to receive your new GPS is to begin by making the sign of the cross.

Huh? Oh, I’m sorry, I guess I should explain a little more. No, I’m not talking about the kind of GPS you’re accustomed to. The GPS I’m talking about is better known as “God’s Prayer System”.
Much like a traditional GPS system, which can not only get you where you need to go, and find where you are at all times, but with this system, you don’t even need any kind of electronic device. The ONLY thing you need for this is the desire to pray.
You see, as I’m sure you already know that prayer is a form of communication with God. When you talk to Him, you are establishing a relationship with Him. When you establish a relationship with Him, He can know exactly “where you’re at” in your life. In simple terms, think of your relationship with God in the same way as other relationships you have. Unless you communicate with the other person (by talking, or in this case, praying), they don’t know how you feel. Yes, ultimately God already knows your heart, and knows how you are feeling, He still wants you to tell Him, and share your feelings with Him.
I want you to stop for a minute and ask yourself, “am I so lost to the point where it feels like God can’t even find me?” Or, “am I exactly where I’m supposed to be because I’m already using my GPS?”
I’m sure everyone reading this already knows how to pray in their own way, but perhaps there are ways of praying that you’ve never thought of or considered. For example, instead of praying to God, have you ever prayed to the Holy Spirit? While God is ultimately the one who we should depend on for everything, (including the very next breath we take), the Holy Spirit is with us to guide us on our daily path, to steer us in the direction we are “supposed” to go. Try it.
There is another prayer that is so powerful, some consider it to be more powerful than any other and it consists of only one word…Jesus. That’s right. Did you know that saying the name “Jesus” is an actual prayer in itself? When you have exhausted all of the other traditional prayers that you probably say each day, the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be, spend a few minutes and simply utter His name…Jesus, Jesus, Jesus…and then, let that lead to another form of prayer, silence. That’s right. When in doubt, instead of talking, listen. I guarantee you that Jesus is trying to talk to you. But if you are too busy doing all the talking, you don’t give Him a chance to talk to YOU.
Just a couple other quick ideas; have someone pray for you or better yet, over you. Pray for those who have passed away. Pray to the Saints. Of course, one of the biggies, pray to our Blessed Mother Mary. She is ALWAYS waiting to intercede for us.
I could go on and on about different types of prayer, but then you’d be sitting there for hours. The resources available for prayer(s) are endless. In fact, one of the things you will eventually see here on this blog is a collection of some of my favorite prayers. Stay tuned for that, I’m working on it.
The most important thing is that you use your very own GPS (God’s Prayer System) to let Him know where you are and where you want to go. Don't worry, as long as you’re “plugged in” He’ll get you there.
One final thought since we’ve been talking about technology so-to-speak, I recently came across this little saying and I thought it was so appropriate:
The first ever Cordless Phone was created by God. He named it “Prayer”…it never loses it’s signal, you never have to recharge it and you can use it anywhere!
Blessings!
